CAROL SOBOROWSKI, LAC
Licensed Acupuncturist (LAc), State of Michigan
Diplomat of Oriental Medicine, National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM)
I first encountered acupuncture at the age of nineteen. I was away at college and the symptoms of my asthma had become so severe that, during my spring semester, I needed to take my “emergency inhaler” just to be able to walk the quarter of a mile from my dorm to my classes. My parents were back home in Michigan looking for alternative treatments to help me. They were referred to an acupuncturist and scheduled my first appointment for when I came home for summer break. When they told me about the appointment, I remember feeling surprised. I didn’t know anyone who had ever seen an acupuncturist! It was a totally new idea to me, but I went because I needed to find relief from my symptoms.
For the duration of that summer, I received regular acupuncture treatments, Chinese herbs, gua sha, and nutritional and lifestyle counseling and the results were life-changing: I was no longer dependent on the daily inhalers and asthma medications that I had taken for the past 10 years. At that time, I was pursuing my bachelor's degree in nutrition and always knew I would continue my education beyond nutrition to become an alternative medical practitioner. It was after my personal experience with acupuncture and Chinese Medicine that I knew I had to become an acupuncturist. I completed my graduate work at the Midwest College of Oriental Medicine, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Master of Science in Oriental Medicine.
Wanting to bring the wonder of acupuncture to as many people as possible, I began my practice in a “Community Style” Acupuncture Clinic, where after a few years, I was treating upwards of eighty patients per week. Practicing at this pace, without an understanding of how to keep myself mentally and emotionally healthy in the midst of treating so many patients, I experienced burn-out and left the medical profession completely. In the years that followed, I intentionally learned many, many lessons about how to create a healthy life so that I could lead many more people into their own lifestyle of stability and health.
I invite you to contact me with any questions you may have and to see if acupuncture treatment is right for you. I look forward to meeting you and helping you on your health journey.
